The blog for uniform styling tips, crew news, recipes, interviews and oh so much more.
There’s much to love about a road trip. Windows down, salty snacks, and of course, the people you meet along the way. So we didn’t have to think twice when our friends at Mercedes-Benz asked us to take their wheels for a spin. In a custom-built Mercedes-Benz Vito Van (designed so we could pack our range of uniforms and hospitality wear with us), we took to the road. From Fitzroy North’s favourite wine bar to a for-purpose floristry and the best distillers on the coast, we put our uniform styling expert Ash’s driving skills to the test. Turns out she’s as good a driver as she is a stylist - the Vito Van came back looking as good as it did when it left the warehouse.
Every stop has a story and a style. Read on to see where the Mercedes-Benz Vito Van took us and get inspiration for your next uniform from three businesses setting the standard for professional style.
Owned by Melbourne hospitality legends, sommelier Simon Denman, and chef Almay Jordaan, Neighbourhood Wine is known for its seasonal plates and evergrowing wine collection. Sitting down at one of the Euro club-house style tables, you’ll likely start with half a dozen Dunalley Bay natural pacific oysters with a glass of dry sparkling. The Neighbourhood Wine look of choice? Our Tom Bib Apron paired with a tan strap. Selected to match the sweeping wooden bar and 70’s panelling lining the ceiling, the straps echos the retro interior, while the black Tom Bib Apron elevates the decadent atmosphere of this Melbourne institution.
Back on the road and just around the corner is The Beautiful Bunch, a not-for-profit Melbourne florist who works with refugee women who are experiencing barriers to employment. Through The Beautiful Bunch’s six-month program, these women finish their training ready to enter the workforce with the floristry and business skills to help them succeed.
With beauty and attention to detail so intrinsic to everything The Beautiful Bunch does, we knew they needed the work uniform to match. Customising our Forest Green Tom Bib Apron with logo embroidery, The Beautiful Bunch brings their brand to the forefront to help build a lasting impression with everyone they meet. This doesn’t stop at the early morning flower markets either. We also customised a unique The Beautiful Bunch Bomber Jacket for ultimate brand presence for those chilly starts.
For our final stop in the Mercedes-Bens Vito Van, we travelled down the coast to Bellarine Distillery, makers of some of the finest gin and whisky in Australia. At the distillery’s cellar door, The Whiskery, you can sip a single malt whisky in the rustic farmhouse-style space while snacking on local produce platters and pizzas. Relaxed and coastal in feel, behind the welcoming space is excellence in distilling, informed by years of research and refinement.
To help tell this story, the look for Bellarine Distillery had to be approachable with an air of polish. Our Women’s Smith Oxford Shirtdress was the perfect choice for waitstaff alongside the Banjo Workshirt in Charcoal for distiller Craig Mitchell. From moving barrels in the cellar one minute to leading a tasting with customers the next, it was the perfect option for the front-facing maker.
Parked back at Cargo Crew HQ, Ash re-stocks the van and checks out who's next on her visit list. Booking in for a visit from the Cargo Crew Vito Van allows you to get one-on-one guidance for the best look for your business, right there in your space. That way, you can take the guesswork out of matching your new uniform to your business style!
Thank you to Mercedes-Benz, Neighbourhood Wine, Bellarine Distillery and The Beautiful Bunch for partnering with us on this road trip.
