The role

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Finance Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of the finance strategy and day-to-day direction and running of the Finance function.  In addition, the role shall identify and implement systems, policies, processes and procedures which will enhance financial controls, compliance, analysis and business information provided to the Managing Director, Executive and Management Team (where applicable).  The Finance Manager has ultimate responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of the finance system, general ledger and accounts.

The role works closely with all departments within the business, ensuring the Finance function provides the managers (and their team members) with all their business financial requirements. 

The Finance Manager is a passionate and agile leader who can:

  • Build new processes that adapt to the dynamic changes that exist within the Cargo Crew business
  • Identify financial insights, variances and efficiencies; and
  • Provide recommendations for improved financial performance to the Managing Director and Executive Team. 

The Finance Manager will develop and ultimately have a deep understanding of the brand, key financial drivers and requirements of the business. The Finance Manager will have a proven ability to coach & support internal teams, ensuring open communication and collaboration to deliver exceptional efficient and effective financial management and compliance for the business.

The Finance Manager is expected to be a creative thinker who is able to build practices in line with Cargo Crew’s unique business model. 

Key responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Preparation of weekly/monthly financial and management reporting e.g. sales revenue (performance & forecasting including sales order ship forecasts), cash flow position and forecasting, monthly profit & loss performance and balance sheet position including analysis, comparison to budget, investigation, reporting and action, reviewing monthly account reconciliations, etc… 
  • Preparation of annual accounts for audit and annual statutory reporting
  • Preparation of the annual budget and maintenance of 3 year rolling forecast
  • Analyse sales, costs, pricing, inventory, variable contributions and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans (i.e., budget).  Use information to highlight and predict future financial trends
  • Provide financial and analytical support to the Managing Director, Operations Director and Executive Team (where appropriate) to provide performance financial and operational insights that aid profitable growth and focus appropriate resource allocation

Financial Operations

  • Monitoring the day-to-day financial operations such as payroll, invoicing (debtors), payables (including local and offshore suppliers), inventory, fixed assets, sundry creditors and accruals and other transactions
  • Oversee and review the completion of monthly PAYG withholding statements and quarterly BAS’, annual tax calculations and other statutory compliance requirements
  • Support the Managing Director in working with the functional managers around budgets, spending, reporting and financial accountability
  • Develop strong and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of communications and resolution of issues
  • Where requested, support functional managers and teams with financial negotiations, contractual reviews and recommendations

Systems, Controls, Processes & Procedures

  • Guide and coach department managers to enhance financial literacy, including guidance with budgets, financial performance and forecasting
  • Develop, implement and monitor appropriate financial systems, procedures and internal controls to support the efficient and effective operation of the Finance function and the business.  Develop strategies that work to minimise financial risk

Other

  • Insurance - Maintain Cargo Crew’s insurance program including but not limited to:
    • Running annual renewals for recommendation to Managing Director & Operations Director
    • Look for and advise of insurance risks
    • Manage insurance claims (where applicable)
  • Legal
    • Maintain proforma Master Services Agreement and Stock Holding Agreement
    • Support the Client Service team in client contract renewals
    • Support the Managing Director and Operations Director with legal matters as and when requested
  • Compliance
    • Ensure Cargo Crew’s compliance with accounting standards, statutory (e.g. ASIC), legal requirements and compliance in general (as and when required)
  • Remuneration & Benefits
    • Support the Executive Team, Managers and Team Leaders with information regarding current salary & wage costs, forecasting salary & wage expenditure, compliance of renumeration levels to awards, etc…
  • Hedging
    • Maintain Cargo Crew’s hedging/forward contracts position. Provide regular updates and recommendations on the position to the Managing Director and Operations Manager.

Resource Management, Learning and Development for Finance team

  • Responsible for team resource planning and management to ensure that resources are appropriately allocated and managed in order to meet the requirements of the function and the business e.g. workflow delegation and management; individual team member performance, coaching and development
  • Manage all matters relating to recruitment, performance reviews and performance management
  • Consider and develop for approval, learning and development plans for members of the Finance function

General/Operational

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of key financial drivers of the Cargo Crew business
  • Use advanced to expert knowledge and resources to educate the team about Cargo Crew’s key financial drivers in order to help the business optimise sales, profitability and growth of the Cargo Crew business
  • Identify business / process improvement and bring to the attention of the Managing Director
  • Coach and support the Cargo Crew team on financial management
  • Develop and maintain advanced to expert knowledge in Cargo Crew systems (e.g. NetSuite) and processes (e.g. stock management). Ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance and integrity of system and data
  • Possess advanced to expert knowledge in analytics platforms, including excel

Does this sound like you?

  • A relevant degree and 5-7 of financial management experience 
  • Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant qualification
  • An analytical mind & attention to detail.  Desire to probe further into data
  • Possess high levels of ethical credibility and influencing attributes
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships
  • Commercial and business awareness
  • Ability to stick to time constraints
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of NetSuite an advantage
  • A desire to work in an innovative and growing organisation and team, and to play a part in financial planning and management of a quickly expanding business 
  • Proven experience in coaching and supporting others, encouraging a strong sense of cohesion across the business
  • Understanding of, or exposure to, uniform fashion industry or the like an advantage
