The role

Reporting to the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing this role is responsible for supporting the business in achieving its objectives with respect to developing and delivering uniforms clients and their staff want to wear. Along with general duties, the Production Manager will be responsible for large client programs and orders (contract clients).

The Production Manager is the key driver of the Production team, works exceptionally well with the broader business and can express and demonstrate a passion for production and delivering.

The Production Manager will; be driven - a self-starter and who is able to work independently, and collaboratively with the Production, Design and Planning teams and the broader Cargo Crew business; manage technical functions and supply chain partners; have a passion for attention to detail, ensuring that products are thoroughly tested and pass Cargo Crew’s high-quality standards.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Product - Range delivery

Work collaboratively with the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing and the Founder & Creative Director (where appropriate) to support the production of range and custom product:

  • Responsibility for the Production critical path timeline, including but not limited to managing resources (including staff) responsible for production planning, scheduling, prioritisation, on schedule delivery, quality control, etc...(ensuring collaboration with the Creative Director, Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing and Planning Team, and communicating with factories as required)
  • In the Production process, directly responsible for all stages of fabric testing, colour standards, delivering outcomes and communicating results to the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing as required
  • Attend fitting, use pattern making and garment technician skills to support the Design Team, and the product development process and outcomes
  • Negotiate and manage Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ’s) for fabrics and styles with suppliers (mills and factories)
  • Negotiate, and ultimate accountability for, product target prices (considering price points, margins etc) with suppliers based upon parameters provided by the business (e.g. Creative Director, Managing Director, Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing, Planning, etc....)
  • Trouble shoot production delivery. Understand issues, develop solutions, negotiate and manage delivery to required outcomes
  • Directly responsible for product quality including quality control (at factory) including but not limited to bulk items inspected and measured to ensure they meet pre-determined specifications and quality standards. Trouble shooting as required.
  • Manage returns & faults with suppliers (including customer returns) and disputes. Supporting Client Service to ensure the customer receives timely and accurate information and responses
  • Responsible for maintaining existing product labelling and packaging standards and requirements. Consider matters such as cost, national and international standards requirements (including shipping & customs), etc...
  • Manage warehouse inquiries or concerns regarding deliveries and providing support as required.
  • Manage corporate and custom programs, including ongoing production management of replenishment orders
  • Review supplier invoices and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy with quoted prices and volumes. Raise any concerns with the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing. Planning ultimately sign-off on supplier invoices with finance.
  • Ensure the team is maintaining and updating record (NetSuite, supplier data base, faulty log, production plan, production schedule…)
  • Review finished product costs with Cargo Crew’s NetSuite inventory system to ensure accuracy
  • With the assistance of the Warehouse and Planning Team, ensure component holdings for local production are regularly inspected and checked. Any variances against what is recorded in Cargo Crew’s NetSuite inventory system should be investigated and reported to the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing.
  • Source and manage local suppliers and vendors ensuring order schedules are prepared, maintained, and agreed terms met

Supplier Relationships

  • Drive strong supplier relationships with overseas and local manufacturers
  • Visit factories (local & offshore) if needed
  • Assist to ensure factory compliance and certification process throughout the supply chain including ECA in Australia Certification is current and maintained
  • Work with the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing to evaluate suppliers where necessary in alignment with strategic plan and operational requirements
  • Manage supplier relationships in accordance with Cargo Crew contractual commitments

Leadership and mentoring

  • Take a leadership role within the Production team
  • Assist in mentoring and development of the team

  • You can demonstrate a track record of production management and delivery
