The role

Reporting to the Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing, this role is critical in the creation of Cargo Crew’s products and is responsible for supporting the business in achieving its objectives to deliver the leading Modern Uniform collection globally. 

This position will work closely and collaboratively with the Creative Director to turn the product vision into reality. 

The Product Developer will be driven - a self-starter who is able to work independently as well as collaborate with the Creative Director, Design Consultants, and the Production team to deliver outstanding products with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

We are laser focused on perfecting our development styles before ordering and we have rigorous testing standards, to ensure our products meet our high-performance standards. We require the highest level of attention to detail and accuracy and thorough monitoring of fabric, colour, and manufacture of each product to ensure high-quality standards are met and maintained.

As a rapidly growing business Cargo Crew requires a talented, experienced, and adaptable Product Developer who can contribute their skills to the areas of Garment Tech and Product Development.  

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Product Development

Working in partnership with our design team and suppliers, your technical skills will contribute to bringing the garment to life. 

  • Create technical sketches, fabric and product briefs, and colour standards for supplier briefs
  • Prepare tech packs and garment specifications
  • Prepare garment samples, fabric, and lab dip swatch submissions
  • Advising on fabrications, wash and garment finishes to both Designers and suppliers
  • Ensure everything is tracking in accordance with the critical path from first proto to PPS
  • Sign off all garments with Creative Director and Head of Production and organise handover to production team once PPS is signed off
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Production & Ethical Sourcing to understand product deliverables for new products including FOB targets, lead time and MOQs.
  • Maintain and update tracker summaries on Excel
  • Assist in preparing final SMS sample ranges for photoshoot’s and assist on shoot days on location where required

Garment Tech

  • Oversee product fit sessions to ensure proper measurements are met, suggest, and manage corrections as required
  • Translate technical fit improvements and alterations to suppliers
  • Use pattern making and garment technician skills to support new product development to approved final proto
  • Measure and control fit of garment and approvals

R&D

  • In collaboration with the Creative Director, Designers and Production Team, assist and drive new fabric development that will enhance fit, functionality & performance of Cargo Crew’s uniform range (core and custom)
  • Supported by the Production team, responsible for testing, trialling, and tracking the new fabric developments, delivering and filing outcomes and communicating results to the Creative Director.

Does this sound like you? 

  • Apparel garment construction, alternations, measuring, fitting and proficient at pattern making
  • 3+ years technical skills working on apparel fashion
  • Good fabric, printing, dye and wash knowledge and offshore sourcing experience.
  • A desire to work in an innovative and growing organisation and team, and to play a part in shaping the creation and development of products in an expanding business
  • A degree in Fashion Design or related course with strong garment technical skills
  • Passion for sustainable design and ethical production
  • Passion for what you do and high level of attention to detail
  • Strong organisational, time management, problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Work independently but also within a dynamic team environment – team player
  • Facilitating technical approval comments / requirements to offshore suppliers.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Illustrator
  • Able to take initiative - you get things done
  • Working in fast paced environment and the tight timelines revolved around offshore garment manufacturing processes.
  • Proven experience in leading a production function, coaching and supporting others, encouraging a strong sense of cohesion across the business
  • Understanding of, or exposure to, uniform fashion industry or the like
  • Possess high levels of credibility and influencing attributes
  • Can demonstrate advanced skills in:
    • Communication (written & oral)
    • Time/workload management
    • Problem solving & analytics
    • Relationship building
  • A strong commercial focus in delivering results
